iPhone on sale at Best Buy starting Sept. 7

The iPhone will be available at almost 970 Best Buy stores all over the US starting September 7, 2008. As the first 3rd party retailer of the iPhone 3G (still to be sold only with the AT&T plan and contract) Best Buy has scored something of a victory.
However, the economics of this deal are still uncertain. While this deal considerably increases access to the new device from Cupertino, there is no news on improvements in the supply situation. Apple and AT&T stores across the country have a wait time of two to three weeks for the iPhone 3G and Apple isn’t saying how it will make sure that the wait times don’t increase even further when so many new stores start selling the phone.
iPhones sold at Best Buy will have the same pricing of $199 and $299 for the 8GB and 16GB models respectively, and will require the same contract. Details about the activation process are not yet available.
