Sun announces availability of OpenSolaris OS 2008.05

Sun and the global OpenSolaris community today jointly announced the immediate availability of the OpenSolaris Operating Systems at the Sun CommunityOne developer conference.
Code named project Indiana, Sun has been working to build a LiveCD installation and the new network-based OpenSolaris Image Packaging System (IPS) to simplify and speed installation and integration with third-party applications. Debian project founder Ian Murdoch was hired by sun to lead this effort.
OpenSolaris is the first Operating System to feature Sun’s flagship ZFS ( Zetabyte File System ) as a default filesystem. ZFS offers enterprise grade features like instant roll-back and continual check-summing capabilities. In addition, developers and users alike can see innovative Sun technologies like DTrace, Zones and Solaris containers in action with OpenSolaris.
Sun also announced availability of the OpenSolaris operating system on Amazon’s EC2 ( Elastic Compute Cloud ) for interested users. Users will need to have an Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon S3 account s to avail the service. Users can run mysql on OpenSolaris on EC2 - Instructions available here.
