AMD announces new HE processors, 6 and 12 core roadmap

AMD today announced the immediate availability of energy-efficient x86 server processors with four processing cores and an integrated memory controller in a low 55-watt ACP thermal envelope. The processors are ideal for creating two , four and eight way power-efficient rack and blade servers. Quad-Core AMD Opteron HE processors are available in both the 2300 and 8300 Series.

“Our new Quad-Core AMD Opteron HE processors were designed to help datacenter managers who see power consumption and virtualization as the keys to solving their overall performance equation,” said Randy Allen, corporate vice president and general manager, Server and Workstation Division, AMD.

In a recent announcement, AMD also revealed it’s server and workstation processor roadmap. Highlights include

  1. AMD’s 45nm CPU codenamed Shanghai is on tract for 2nd half of 2008.
  2. 6 core processors with the current socket F1 in 2nd half of 2009.
  3. 6 and 12 core processors in 1st half of 2010 with DDR3, HyperTransport 3.0 and AMD RD890 chipset
