Flock Inc. , the maker of the Flock social browser, has raised $15 million in Series D funding led by Fidelity Ventures. Flock generates revenue from driving search traffic, the same model as Mozilla. Flock has a deal with Yahoo Inc. and some other companies.
The company has raised a total of about $28 million since it was founded in 2005. Existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners, Catamount Ventures and Shasta Ventures also participated.
While browsing, users can use the Flock browser for their social networking and social media services. The browser is built on top of Mozilla’s open-source technology and uses add-on’s and plugins to provide the social functionality.
Since January 2008, Flock’s users have increased by more than 250% while its revenue has grown by more than 400%, the company said. The company plans to use the funding to build out its technology and expand internationally.
