HP introduces 2-in-1 server

HP has introduced a first of a kind 2-in-1 server. The HP ProLiant BL2×220c server blade extends HP’s technology infrastructure portfolio aimed at “scale-out” computing and storage environments such as those used in cloud computing, Web 2.0 and high-performance computing deployments.
HP ProLiant BL2×220c server blade features include
- Blade cage and 2 server blades that are identical
- 2 Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processor L5420 (2.5GHz, 1333 FSB, 50W); up to 2 supported
- 4GB standard; support for up to 16GB of memory (with 4GB DIMMS), supported by (4) slots of PC2-5300 Registered ECC DIMMs at 667 MHz
- 1 fixed small form factor SATA drive (120GB)
- 1 Dual 1GbE ports via single BCM5715S
- Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2) Standard Blade Edition per server
According to a recent study published by Gartner, HP moved to top spot in worldwide server shipments. With a 30.1 percent total unit shipment share and 29.6 percent vendor revenue share, HP maintained the No. 1 volume position and took over revenue leadership from IBM for the first Quarter of 2008.
