HP today announced touch enabled PC’s for home use. The new HP TouchSmart family of PCs feature HP software designed for touch. A finger tapped or swept across the high-resolution screen delivers quick access to information, entertainment and social networks. This will allow users to perform most common operations without using a keyboard or mouse - play music, create playlists, zoom in or out of photos, and quickly check the weather or watch TV.

The PC’s features a 22″ diagonal high screen display and is powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The simple sleek design also makes it appealing for installation in almost any room in the house.

The price: The systems are expected to be priced in the $1300 - $1500 price range with price increases expected for custom high performance and fully featured configurations.

The specs do fall short of expectations in the touch department. Apple already has multi touch technology in it’s phones and it will just be a matter of time Apple announces Mac’s with multi touch displays. They have done a fantastic job of integrating touch functionality into their iphone and making the touch usage easy and intutive.

Other manufacturers are expected to follow suit with their own announcements. Desktop computer buyers should expect some interesting choices in the market for Christmas!
