WiFi+WiMax coming to a laptop in stores near you

Intel has obtained WiMax certification for their 2.5 GHz WiFi/WiMax - Intel® Wi-Fi/WiMAX Link 5350 ( code named Echo-P ). The module is an integrated WiMAX + Wi-Fi mini card module designed to be embedded into notebooks and potentially other mobile or CE devices, and is the industry’s first integrated Wi-Fi/WiMAX module with advanced multiple input/multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology.
What this means is soon consumers will have a choice of laptop and mobile devices that will be able to connect with both WiFi and WiMax networks. According to intel, The Intel Wi-Fi/WiMAX Link 5350 is expected to be available in certain notebook PCs sold in the U.S. at the end of this year.
The WiMax forum announced several other vendors that got the first set of WiMax certifications

- Alvarion Ltd.
- Beceem Communications Inc.
- Motorola Inc.
- Samsung Electronics Company, Ltd.
- Sequans Communications
- ZyXEL
Alvarion Ltd., Motorola Inc., Samsung Electronics Company, Ltd. and Sequans Communications each received the WiMAX Forum Certified Seal of Approval for a 2.5 GHz base station.
Airspan Networks, Beceem Communications Inc., Intel Corporation, Samsung Electronics Company, Ltd., Sequans Communications and ZyXEL each received the WiMAX Forum Certified Seal of Approval for a 2.5 GHz mobile station module.
