Facebook to put Live Search on their pages

Microsoft and Facebook today announced plans to have Live Search on facebook pages at Facebook’s F8 Developer conference in San Francisco. Microsoft will provide search functionality and search advertising on Facebook and this ads to the existing relationship betweem the two companies. In 2006 the two signed an ad partnership for third-party ads to be displayed on Facebook pages. Last year, Microsoft had agreed to invest $240 million in Facebook.

Recent search engine market share numbers from comScore has put Microsoft at 3rd spot with 9.2 percent of searches market share in June, a 0.3 percent increase from May. With a Live Search box on Facebook’s pages Microsoft can put its search box in front of over 36 million visitors who are on facebook every month. Facebook’s top competitor in the US, myspace.com, on the other hand has a deal with Google. Myspace and Google signed signed an exclusive $900 million search ad deal with MySpace in 2006.
