Netflix has announced that Netflix streaming will be available with LG’s BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player. Capable of playing high definition Blu-ray discs and the ability to up-convert standard DVDs to 1080p, Netflix  streaming will allow BD300 owners to instantly stream more than 12,000 choices of movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the TV for no additional charge.

The BD300 is the first Blue-ray player in the market to offer direct streaming capabilities.

“As Blu-ray player sales are expected to triple in three years, consumers are craving content and seeking a premium home entertainment experience,” said LG Electronics USA President Teddy Hwang. “The BD300 is another LG industry first and provides consumers with an advanced high-def disc player with unparalleled flexibility and networked access for services such as Netflix.”

As part of the technology integration, with the BD300’s accompanying remote control, Netflix members will be able to browse and make selections right on the TV screen and also have the ability to read synopses and rate movies. In addition, they will have the option of fast-forwarding and rewinding the video stream.

Netflix has recently been on a roll, inking deals with Microsoft for their XBOX 360 and also announcing a streaming box for $99 from Roku labs. The company is investing heavily on Netflix streaming. In just over a year the selection of items available for streaming has increased from 5000 to now over 12000. With LG’s announcement, other vendors will probably follow suit with Netflix or competing solution (?).
