Nokia’s Files for Ovi is now in beta test. The service allows Nokia phone owners to view, download and send files on home, work computers anytime and anywhere. One can browse, search, and view photos, automatically resized for their mobile screen. Adobe PDF and Microsoft Word documents are supported and viewable/searchable. Users can also transfer music from their computers to the phones for listening.
Ovi is the name for Nokia’s “umbrella concept” Internet services. Centered on ovi.com, it’s a “personal dashboard” where users can share photos with friends, buy music and access third-party services.
Nokia is recommending a “flat rate” data plan from your mobile service provider, so you can use Files without concern for data charges. The service is a subscription service, and requires a major credit card. However, during this initial phase, Nokia will not be collecting credit card information during the “Subscribe” process.
subscription options include either monthly or annual billing, and either 10 Gig or 30 Gig Anytime Files storage.
