John McCain selects running mate as Gallup shows 8 pt Obama lead
Tiny URL: http://tinyurl.com/5o5s5rIn a surprise move, John McCain has selected Alaska governor Sarah Palin as running mate for the post of Vice President of the United States of America. The move clearly seems to be an attempt to woo feminist voters backing Hillary as Barack Obama accepted his nomination for the president of the United States at the Democratic National Convention. However, it undermines the McCain campaigns current strategy of attacking Obama for his limited experience.
“I’m very happy today to spend my birthday with you, and to make a historic announcement in Dayton,” said Mr. McCain, who turned 72 on Friday, explaining that he had been looking for the running mate who can “best help me shake up Washington.”
“She’s not from these parts, and she’s not from Washington, but when you get to know her, you’re going to be as impressed as I am,” Mr. McCain said
McCain played a neat trick by floating rumors of his announcement of the candidate for Vice President right on the day of the acceptance speech from Democratic nominee Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention effectively stealing some of the headlines in the media.
The latest Gallup polls have shown that ratings for Obama have increased following the DNC and the lead has widened to 8 points. However it is expected that the lead will narrow down as the McCain chooses his running mate and as the Republican National Convention kicks off Monday night.
