Tiny URL: http://tinyurl.com/64chtqDell has finally unveiled it’s Ultra Mobile Personal Computer, the Inspirion Mini 9. Michael Dell was spotted carrying one of the early versions of the UMPC at the D-conference a few months back. The device is now official with Dell’s announcement today.
The Mini 9 is small and weighs just 2.28 lbs. It comes with a keyboard and solid state drive (SSD) storage, an 8.9 inch glossy LED display (1024×600), built-in Wi-Fi. Optional features include a built-in webcam with Dell Video Chat software for video conferencing, recording and sending video emails and for PC-to-PC phone calls.
The UMPC is built on an Intel Atom processor and for the first time Dell is offering a new product with great ambitions, with a choice of Windows or Ubuntu Linux for customers. It’s surprisingly affordable and priced at $349 for the Ubuntu 8.04 version with a custom Dell interface.
