Dell unveils Inspirion Mini UMPC: both Windows and Linux options!

Dell has finally unveiled it’s Ultra Mobile Personal Computer, the Inspirion Mini 9. Michael Dell was spotted carrying one of the early versions of the UMPC at the D-conference a few months back. The device is now official with Dell’s announcement today.
The Mini 9 is small and weighs just 2.28 lbs. It comes with a keyboard and solid state drive (SSD) storage, an 8.9 inch glossy LED display (1024×600), built-in Wi-Fi. Optional features include a built-in webcam with Dell Video Chat software for video conferencing, recording and sending video emails and for PC-to-PC phone calls.
The UMPC is built on an Intel Atom processor and for the first time Dell is offering a new product with great ambitions, with a choice of Windows or Ubuntu Linux for customers. It’s surprisingly affordable and priced at $349 for the Ubuntu 8.04 version with a custom Dell interface.
