Research in Motion, the company behind the popular blackberry line of phones, has announced that it will be partnering with Microsoft and TiVo to further enhance it’s mobile services offerings. With the iPhone taking the smartphone market by storm, RIM is rumored to be working on it’s iPhone competitor, a touch screen Blackberry. Meanwhile it’s building relationships to make it’s mobile services offerings more compelling.

The TiVo relationship holds the promise of bringing in a variety of mobile entertainment services.

“TiVo subscribers will soon be able to wirelessly control their TiVo DVRs using a BlackBerry smartphone - anytime, anywhere - and that is a powerful example of how our respective technologies can complement each other to serve our mutual customers,” said Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO of Research In Motion.

Microsoft is making a big push to make Live Search as successful as Google’s search offering, the market leader in online and mobile search. As more and more people are now online surfing the web, search is now and Internet lifestyle, no. 2 after e-mail.

With the Live Search partnership, now BlackBerry smartphone users will be able to

  • Use Microsoft Live Search as their search engine within the BlackBerry® Browser as well as
  • Access Live Search on Mobile.BlackBerry.com and
  • Use Live Search to perform contextual, location-sensitive searches or look for nearby points of interest from inside BlackBerry Maps.

Previously, the two companies have collaborated on providing access to Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Hotmail on the BlackBerry platform.
