Still the “most popular” governor?

Despite McCain’s personal gaffe’s, his attempts to vilify Obama by taking things out of context, his campaign rallying divisive forces in the country to win an election and his erratic behavior during the financial crisis, it may be Sarah the Barracuda that may ultimately cost him the presidency. Senator McCain choose Sarah Palin without much vetting and surprised quite a few GOP members as well when he announced her nomination for the VP post. Little did he know, Palin was a train wreck of epic proportions waiting to happen.

In her short stint in the public eye, Palin has managed to appear ignorant on almost anything remotely connected to governance and issues, has been reprimanded for unethical behavior by the the bipartisan Alaska Legislative Council and has been found to have affiliations with extreme right groups including the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants independence from the USA.

As the election nears it’s final leg, we thought it would be helpful for voters to get a complete picture on McCain’s VP nominee. Here are some of our favorite Palinism’s

“As the ceremony concluded, I bumped into her in a hall away from other people. I congratulated her on her victory, and took her aside to ask about her faith. Among other things, she declared that she was a young earth creationist, accepting both that the world was about 6,000-plus years old, and that humans and dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time. I asked how she felt about the second coming and the end times. She responded that she fully believed that the signs of Jesus returning soon “during MY lifetime,” were obvious. “I can see that, maybe you can’t - but it guides me every day.” - Philip Munger. Palin on Dinosaur’s.
Palin: “I have read most of them with a great appreciation for the press, for the media”.

Katie Couric: Anything specific?

Palin: “All of them, any of them that have been in front of me”

Katie Couric: “Can you name a few?”

Palin: “I have a vast variety of sources. Alaska isn’t a foreign country where it’s kind of suggested it seems like how do you keep in touch with the rest of washington DC. Alaska is the microcosm of America.”

Bottom Line: She does not care about reading news and she could not mention the name of one single publication she reads regularly and we are talking about the governor of a state in the USA and a potential candidate for presidency of this nation!

Katie Couric: I’m going to ask you one more time…specific examples in [McCain's] 26 years of pushing for more regulation?
Gov. Palin: I’ll try to find some, and I’ll bring em to ya.

“We believe that the best of America is in the small towns that we get to visit, and in the wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation,” Palin thinks America is composed of two kinds of people - the real americans  and the not so real americans - all those freaks who live in the big cities.
Excerpt from the troopergate report: a unanimous 12-0 vote to release the report with a clear statement of the abuse of power by Governor Palin.

For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39/52/110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides

The legislature reaffirms that every public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.

Palin responded to questions on the Troopergate report and her abuse of power by saying that she was completely vindicated by the bipartisan jury and there’s nothing in the report - We all know she does not read much. See the response to the Couric question above.
“They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska,” During a discussion of foreign affairs and America’s relationship with former nemesis Russia, ABC’s Charlie Gibson asked how Alaska’s proximity to Russia gave her foreign policy insight.
Palin agrees with Dick Cheney that “we have a lot of flexibility in there” under the Constitution. And she declared that she was “thankful that the Constitution would allow a bit more authority given to the vice president also, if that vice president so chose to exert it.”

FACT: The Constitution does not state or imply any flexibility in the office of vice president. It gives the vice president no legislative responsibilities other than casting a tie-breaking vote in the Senate when needed and no executive powers at all. The vice president’s constitutional role is to be ready to serve if the president dies or becomes incapacitated.

So what is the latest on the Palin front? Well, after the campaign has been tooting it’s horn on how McCain and Palin stand for Joe the plumber aka the middle class, the small town people and the average hockey mom’s, Palin has done the most un middle class of things. She spent $150,000 for clothing herself and her family with money collected for the campaign. This directly violates the 2002 McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act. The McCain-Palin ticket is looking dumber and dumber every day.

On several occasions, McCain himself as well as the McCain campaign declared that “Governor Palin is the most popular governor in the country.” It’s a line that has become a campaign talking point — repeated by staffers, supporters and prominent GOP members. So what do you think Mr. McCain, she still the most popular governor?

All we can say is Palin makes Bush seem so intelligent sometimes, it’s just unbelievable and frankly quite a scary prospect. What was McCain thinking when he picked her for the post?
