For the month of April, Google was the only major player whose market share of the web search queries grew. Eating more out of its competitors pie, Google search queries grew to 61.6 percent compared to 59.8 percentage for the month of April, according to search Internet monitoring research firm comScore.

Numbers for April:

  • Search Queries dropped by 2 percent to 10.58 billion for the month of April
  • Google search queries up by 1 percent from 6.44 billion in March to 6.58 billion in April
  • Yahoo’s share of search queries dropped to 20.4 percent with its numbers sinking by 6 percent
  • Microsoft’s share of search queries shrunk to 9.1 percent with queries falling by 5 percent
  • AOL’s share down to 4.6 (numbers drop by 6) while Ask.com down to 4.3 percent (numbers drop by 9 percent)

Why IT matters?

  • Search advertising accounts for 41 percent of online advertising
  • Microsoft’s multiple attempts to keep itself visible in online search market (including its attempt to acquire Yahoo) seems to have no impact on Google’s growth
