HP goes green on printing

Hewlett-Packard became another “Greenophile” company on Thursday, at least in its Imaging and Printing Group. With an enterprise printing assessment service and carbon calculator, launch of an HP inkjet printer made entirely from recycled materials and an environmentally sensitive policy governing paper manufacturing, HP would be leading the charge in reducing carbon footprint for the printing industry.
“HP is focused on helping all of our customers - from consumers to enterprises - reduce their environmental impact,” Vyomesh Joshi, executive VP of the Imaging and Printing Group at HP, said in a statement
HP DeskJet 2545
- 83% of the printer’s total plastic weight is recycled material
- Uses HP 60 ink cartridges, which are molded from recycled plastic resins
- Estimated retail price is $45
Printing Assessment Service
- Measures customer’s energy consumption, paper usage and carbon emissions
- Makes recommendations of cutting power, paper use and recycling
Carbon Footprint Calculator
- Becomes online at the end of the June
- Allows customers to compare their existing printer fleet and compare that to new HP solutions
- Assesses printer energy and paper use, the carbon impact of usage and associated monetary costs
New Paper Policy
- Using Raw materials effeciently
- Giving preference to suppliers which are “green” themselves
- pledges that 100% of its consumers photo paper will be derived from source fiber certified by a forestry certification program by the end of next year
