Firefox3: Download Day records 8 million downloads
Tiny URL: http://tinyurl.com/6zlva8Firefox’s latest version has landed. The free open source web browser from Mozilla corp. was downloaded 8,349,074 times between 2:16 p.m. ET Tuesday and 2:16 p.m. ET Wednesday according to the company. First 24 hours for the download were dubbed as “Download Day 2008” as Mozilla wanted to make highest number of software download in one day ever and secure a position into Guiness Book of World Records.
The large number of users attempting to access the Mozilla website on June 17th caused it to become unavailable for at least a few hours and attempts at upgrading to the new version resulted in server timeouts. The site was not updated for the download of Firefox 3 until 12:00 PDT (19:00 UTC), two hours later than originally scheduled.
Mozilla hosted a Download Day party at its Mountain View, California office. I was not invited!
