How many Smartphone buyers want iPhone 3G?

With iPhone 3G release just over a week away, a majority of smartphone buyers are waiting for buying an iPhone 3G. According to data released this week from RBC Capital Markets, 56% of customers planning to get a smartphone in the next 90 days want to have iPhone 3G. RIM’s Blackberry bold is distant second with 23% of customers showing interesting in it. Just 3% are interested in Palm devices and 2% were interested in purchasing an HTC, Nokia , or Samsung smartphone, respectively. Only 1% said they wanted a Motorola smartphone, and 9% opted for “other.”

Shortly after Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the next-generation iPhone 3G, RBC surveyed about 3,600 members of its Technology Adoption Panel to arrive at these numbers.
