“The Dark Knight” - ticket mania on eBay

If you tried to watch, Batman’s latest adventure flick this weekend, you must have faced difficulty in getting tickets even via online services. And where does America go when we try to get something hard-to-find? We go to eBay!

For the weekend, eBay and Craigslist sold tickets to The Dark Knight for as much as five times the original price. IMAX tickets were in special demand as some of the biggest action scenes have been shot with the IMAX camera. The movie opened in 4,366 theaters and 94 IMAX screens and has grossed $155.3 million over the weekend making it the biggest opening ever erasing Spider Man 3 from the records book.

The popularity of “The Dark Knight” has been unprecendent as evident from the following:

  • The Dark Knight has near perfect rating on IMDB with a score of 9.7 and voted by over 46 thousand viewers, pushing it ahead of The Godfather as the all time best movie rated a 9.2.
  • The Dark Knight made more money on its opening day ($66.4 million) than Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda and Hancock made in their whole opening weekend (including the 4th of July weekend for Hancock).
  • The Dark Knight made more money on its opening weekend than the previous 3 Batman movies made combined.

eBay also has nearly 23,000 items related to Batman listed on Friday.
