Now Free: VMware hypervisor ESXi

Increasing competition in the area of virtualization brought you a freebie on Monday. VMware announced it would let users download its number one product hypervisor ESXi for free. According to a VMware press release, ESXi 3.5 update 2 is available for download immediately from the link - http://vmware.com/products/esxi/.
ESXi is purpose-built for running virtual machines, minimizing configuration requirements and simplifying deployment. It boasts industry’s smallest footprint and OS independence. There are over 800 virtual appliances that have been created for the VMware hypervisor on the VMware Virtual Appliance Marketplace, and ESXi now incorporates a direct integration with the Virtual Appliance Marketplace to allow users to immediately download and run virtual appliances. This enables a new and radically streamlined approach to plug-and-play software delivery and installation.
VMware has been making hypervisor since 2001, and has in excess of 120,000 customers which, the company claims, makes it the industry’s “most popular and reliable” hypervisor product. The ESXi version is the third generation of its hypervisors and was launched towards the end of 2007.
