Microsoft updated the homepage of its online search Live.com on Wednesday. The new design features background images that will change frequently and the image will have “hotspots” on it - an area on the image that is highlighted and boxed when the user hovers the mouse over it. The hotspot highlighted box has basic information about that part of the image and can be used to start a Live search on that information.

The current photo features a man on a long boat on an African river. The information boxes point to photos of animals that live in Botswana and other facts about the country’s natural features.

According the Live search blog - official blog of Live.com, the design was in trials last month and received positive feedback from the customers. “We think the new design is a great start, but there’s more to come, with lots of interesting directions that we’ll be exploring in our next releases of the home page,” the blog says.

The page is being launched only in US. It is not clear how frequently the background image will change.
