Zumobi is a new, free application that delivers fun and informative content via widgets to your Windows Mobile phone. Zumobi widgets are called Tiles and feature small information from the web or small applications. Originally developed by Microsoft Research, Zumobi initially ran on Windows Mobile 5 and 6 smartphones. Pledging to offer “an open, device-neutral platform for building and deploying rich content for mobile phones,” Zumobi has also released a beta version of its SDK. That version will allow developers to create their own tiles, which they can upload to the “Zumobi Gallery.”

Zumobi announced a version of its mobile widget platform designed to provide Windows Mobile users with regularly updated news from the 2008 Summer Olympics. The free “Zumobi Summer Games Edition,” sponsored by Intel and Lenovo, provides four “tiles” featuring Olympics-related news and content, says Zumobi.
