iPhone 3G jumps to the top in a gloomy handset market
Tiny URL: http://tinyurl.com/5nr3cdThe economy is bad to say the least and consumer spending has been going down. For the month of October consumer spending dropped 0.3 percent the biggest setback since June 2004. Naturally the commodity sale volume has been going down as well including Cell Phones. But tough situations separate good from bad and the winner turns out to be: iPhone 3G.
According to market research firm NPD Group, mobile phone sales in the U.S. dropped 15 percent to 32 million units for the third quarter in 2008. However, Apple’s iPhone 3G surpassed the Motorola RAZR as the leading handset purchased to establish itself as NUMERO UNO. RAZR had been ranked by NPD as the top selling handset for last 12 quarters (Wow!)
Here is the list of top 5 handsets sold for Q3 -
1. Apple iPhone 3G
2. Motorola RAZR V3 (all models)
3. RIM Blackberry Curve (all models)
4. LG Rumor
5. LG enV2
When asked about most important feature in the phone, consumers reported following:
- 43% - Camera
- 36% - Send/Receive Text Messages
However, the rise to the top may not last for iPhone 3G as it is likely that average handset buyer did wait for holiday season for their next purchase while the Apple fan club continued their shopping spree sensing no price drop for 3G in the holiday season.
